Board of Barbering and Cosmetology Licensing Requirements

To receive a cosmetology license in the state of California a student must:

1. Complete a cosmetology course in a school approved by the California State Board of Barbering & Cosmetology.
2. Submit an application and required fee.
3. Have at least a 10th grade education or its equivalent and be at least 17 years of age.
4. Must receive a passing score on both the practical demonstration and written test.
